I just found this on ebay and it claims it's a 3 Watt purple lux LED star in the hilt, but I don't think luxeon makes purple do they?

That is a white 3 watt luxeon with a filter, Luxeon does not make a purple led.

He says it's purple and he doesn't say anything about a filter and the hilt pic shows that the purple color comes directly from the LED, or could it be that he filtered directly on/over the light?

The filter is directy on top of the led optics, by looking at the photo I would say that he is using a stock MR blade and holder.

Two most common ways to add a filter:
slide the filter into the hilt and then add the blade.
add the filter to the top of the lens.

If he is using film instead of discs then they stay in the hilt even when you pull the blade out. Trust me on this if they made a purple Lux I would be the first on in line to get one.
