Hey everyone...

I wanted to share (a little early) a mod that I've been planning for a while...

Anyway, the way it works is like this - Yamabiko over at FX posted up a kick-ass version of the Luke Hero. It had a screw in blade plug which made the saber look like the actual prop. Then when he wanted to put in the blade, he unscrewed the plug and screwed in a specially threaded blade.

PICS:

So what I would suggest (and plan on doing myself) is to make a blade plug where there's the little "nubbin" sticking out like in the first pic. There's a hole drilled down the center, to allow light to pass through just like in the pic. You just adjust the depth of the plug so that when inserted, the flat disc plate is flush with the emitter disc just like in the pic... Then when you want to put in the blade, just take out the plug and stick in the blade.

The effect is basically the same as Yamabiko's... Anyway, thought it was a neat idea...

You *might* get a bit of light leakage from between the emitter and the plug disc, but it shouldn't be all that noticeable. You could always just spraypaint the inside of the plug black to get this effect.

Anyway onto some progress pics:
I asked Tim to mod one of the MHS emitters (stock on the left, lathed down lip on the right with powdercoat):

Then I took a piece of bladestock and sanded it down till it could slide easily into the emitter. I realized that the pommel ends actually are machined to exactly fit inside the emitter (with a tiny "lip" around the edge). I dremeled down the lip so it sits flush with the blade stock. (note: I'm using the pommel end that's pre-drilled and tapped for the recharge ports)

Then I got an aluminum spacer from McMaster and JB welded it on top of the pommel end.

And here's the final result:

Anyway, hope you enjoy! Comments welcome!
I'll be painting the inside black later to help prevent the light leakage around the edge.

The last links aren't working bro, but cool idea!!!

Edit: Working now, too cool! Might have to incorporate this when I build my ROTJ/v2 Luke saber.

Awesome!
I think if it were mine I'd accentuate that outer ring of light. Might be easier than hiding it.
