I just bought a Obi wan kenobi clone wars light saber, how do i wire it up? I have a 4xAA battery pack with a P4 Green 5 watt led, and a 2.2 ohm resistor.
Do i hook the board up straight to the batteries and then the board to the switch, with a resistor bewteen the switch and led?

if it is the new 2010 hasbro with dvd you will find everything you need to know how to wire it up here

also a p4 takes this resistor

http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/33ohm-5w-resistor-P15.aspx

you also need a tip42 transistor to hook it up

I though P4 Cree was a 3W LED? Do you know the correct voltage and current for the 5W?

Im not 100% sure. Your probably right. I got it out of the kit from CSS. It was supposed to be here today so i could wire it up, but its not. I have a freind thats better with electronics than i and he just wanted to make sure he wasnt gonna blow up my investment.

which kit did you get the p4 or the lux 3 ...makes differece for the resistor

If i am readint the diagram corrctly i need a Y splice on the Battery - to the board and the led, and a Y splice from the battery + to the board and the the pnp transistor?

i got the p4 green kit, with a 2.2 resistor in the kit

p4 green needs a 3.3 ohm 5w resistor

want to double check so u have the right resistor

Thanks so much guys i really appreciate it. And Jin I am reading that right? 2 Y splite on the battery + and-?

another note - you're running a 4x AA battery pack? with regular batteries i assume? that would be 6V and the board isn't happy with anything over 5v. i ramped one of mine up to 5.5V on a DC power supply and the speaker started buzzing at me and the LEDs built into it got super bright and desoldered one of the connections for me. just be sure you have one of those 5V regulators for safety reasons is all i'm saying.

going to be using 1.2v rechargables, the nimh kind

then you'll be fine. ^_^ happy crafting!

For P4 3W Green
4.8-3.25 = 1.55V and 1000mA

1.55 / 1 = 1.55Ohms
1.55 * 1 = 1.55Watts

2.2Ohm 5W is the closest sold in the store (on the safe side)

There is a 1Ohm 2W resistor sold in the store if you want to take your chances at overdriving it. I don't recommend it, though.

Now when i wire my resistor in should i do it on the + side after the transistor and before my LED?

after the transistor yes. it doesn't matter if it's before or after the LED, though to be consistent i would put it before.

Last question. Someone said that a 2.2ohm 5 watt was the closest on the shop. Wouldnt a 1.5 ohm 5 watt be the exact fit?

I stand corrected, I didn't see that one. 1.5Ohm 5W it is!
