Okay. I looked for a while a didn't find the answer. So is it better to use a luxeon v or a luxeon III in my vader conversion?

The MR hilt works best with the 3 watt luxeon, you can drive the led directly of of the sound board, the 5 watt luxeon requires a higher voltage to operate and there really isn't any spare room in the MR hilt for extra batteries. You would also have to rewire the hilt to run the led and sound board which requires two different voltages to operate.

do-clo is dead on. the 5watts voltage demands are too high for the stock mr board. it probably wouldnt hardly fire the led much or any at all, and as the great wise do-clo said, you would have to run 2 seperate circuts and batt packs, 1 for the mr and one for the led straight. . it is a much better and easier way to go using the 3 watters in the MR's.

now one thing it may or may not work in would be the older 6 cell mr's. there might be enough juice, but ultra, corbin and tim could say for sure on that one.

If the person is using a white LED and want brightness in an MR Hilt a K2 is about as bright as a 5 watt... At least in my opinion...
Then you wouldn't have to mess with the wiring and voltage issues..
correct me if i'm wrong.

K2's need higher amperages to be on par with the 5W. As far as I know the MR doesn't give out that much.

<center>Read the FAQ (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=552) or x-wing won't be happy. :(
Before posting did you check the Thread Index (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=577)?.

Sence it was brought up no sence in a new topic even thou this topic is old, but whatever.

A K2 versus a lux3 on an MR, would the k2 be better than the lux3?

I know it wouldent get the full potental with the limitations of the MR board.

The way I understand it is the sound can be ran at 4.5-6v, if you run an led with it you should stay at 4.5v(?).

Would this be safe with a k2 on a MR?

yes you can use a k2 on a mr. even if you just run it straight from the board with no relays ect. it will be brighter than a 3watter on a mr board. don't ask me why

Yup,
It's safe. In the case of white, gree, blue.. a K2 would be marginally brighter if run of the MR board directly (4.5 v.) Red/orange - stick with a 3w.
If you incorporate a relay - you can run the K2 at it's full amperage. But it's trickier to wire up. And it will use your batteries faster.

if ya really want to do a relay which is a ton harder, pm do clo for the diagram. that'll fill ya in on all the good stuff

Does amber fall under the white/blue/greens?

Thanks guys

I am pretty sure amber is not along the lines of the white, green, blue.

So 3watt ambers and not a k2 amber then?

The reason blues/green/white are grouped together is the type of diode they use. Reds/Amber use a different type. You can see that in the forward voltages.

A Red Lux III is actually a 5W LED and the Red K2 is a 3W if you do the math.

In the case of the Reds/Amber Lux III (Not going to say 3W there for above reason :P ) is better than a K2 because the K2 Red maxes at 700mA. The Lux III maxes at 1540mA and will obviously be brighter to the eye.
