i was just curious how everyones first saber turned out.
My first (of many of the exact same type) was a pre-painted broom handle, usually blue or red, with bicycle grips nailed on (using small brad nails) Basically you cut the bottom off of one of the grips and the top flare/ring off of the other. They work great... until the wooden broom handle breaks.
Oh you meant... ;)
Here's my first "fully machined by me" saber. It's also the first (of only two) sabers that I have ever had powder-coated. This one is a stunt. It has no electronics and cannot be taken apart. It came out fine. However this was before I had a cut-off blade so I had to make the emitter in 3 pieces to get it to look like it does. Much stress was involved with making this one.

It turned out ok. Many obstacles were overcome with many tries but that is how we learn hmmm. :)

It was pretty. Lights worked, sound didn't, and my attempts at a home-made blade holder didn't go so well. Nice costume piece though

I actually just finished my first saber about a week ago. It was my first attempt to solder anything and my first time working with electronics and I am very happy with the way it turned out. Happy enough to be planning a second saber soon! No sound in this one but I think the next one will have some kind of soundcard.

My first was an aluminum 2 D-cell incandescent bulb flashlight with a traffic-wand adapter and a 3 ft translucent nylon golf ball tube 'blade' and a piece of red cellophane to colour it red for use with my homemade [except for Don Post helmet] Vader costume. No sound except my own humming...but I thought it was cool!
This was for Halloween 1977...we've come a LONG way baby! :)
