The Birthday Commission (First MHS)

One of my friends has an older brother who is quite the Star Wars fan and who's Birthday was coming up. Not having made any MHS sabers before I mad a deal, she bought the parts I did labor at cost. On the sly we got this info that his favorite saber was the Luke ROTJ so I used that for the basic look, blended the Luke ANH and kept everything else simple. I think in turned out nice and has a classic look. I learned A TON working on this saber and I thank every one on these forums for posting all their tips I couldn't have done this without the community. Enjoy, Comments and questions welcome.

Nice! I really like that blend of ROTJ and ESB. You could call it "The Evolution of a Hero," or something. Great job!

I like that, The Evolution of a Hero. That's a pretty cool birthday gift. I like the blade plug. That was a pretty good idea Kastor. I love how we can take regular hardware pieces, & parts and turn them into lightsaber parts. Good job on the saber. This is a great hobby.

Thanks every one. Evolution of a Hero - sounds like a sub-line title of a movie ha ha.

Darth Midian: yeah some times I'll just wanter around the hardware store looking for ideas. I actually have a plan to make a saber completely out of found objects to give it a look as if an outcast Jedi built a saber from junkyard parts, old spaceship engines and such.

Rafalema: Yeah I highly recommend these boards I have a MR saber, and with the addition of Tim's speaker the 2010 boards rival the MR.

i would have to agree, i have used mr boards for years, and after seeing the 2010 hasbro board the other day im going to start using them in place of the mr. they are much cheaper and sound the same for the most part, in some cases better, than the mr.

How did you get it to flicker? My 2010 Hasbro board doesn't flicker... :(

And if you guys think 2010 Hasbro boards sound good, check out the 2010 MR boards :D

im compairing the latest mr board i have, yoda, to the hasbro and im starting to prefer the hasbro, and considering the difference in price im going to switch to hasbro. im going to pick up the new windu and compare it to the hasbro, but still the price is a big issue since i have gotten away from reusing the mr/hasbro fx hilts for custom hilts.

Ronan: you need to use a transistor looped into the positive lead off the board and the original control leads. Look at this diagram (bottom of the page) http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=10288&page=11 this is what I used. you can get the transistor at any Radio Shack. It's kind of a weird set up you have to split your power wires so it takes up a lot of space. works great and adds the clash flicker too. Good luck!

You use the negative leads off of the board to goto the base of the transistor and the battery + goes to the emitter and the LED + goes to the collector. Be sure to use the correct sized resistor based off of the voltage and current measurements you get after the transistor. The second diagram on the first page of that thread is a little easier to understand.

Great saber by the way.

You are using a TIP42G for the transistor? Thats what im using and it doesn't flicker on/off...

Scratch that, spent some time on it, all works great!

Excellent! Glad to hear it, it's so much more fun with the flickering effects.
