Well I painted the new PVC saber today and I got bubbles in the paint... So I gave it the aged look for the moment. I was wondering if I decide to repaint will thinner damage the PVC? It's hard to see but it is Dr. Pepper red and black both were metal flaked... It looked really awsome until I saw the bubbles.

what type of paint are you using ......also are you painting in a clean environment ....sometimes dust can get into the paint if their is anytype of wind while you are painting

multiple light coats, you just want to dust it on every coat and it will build up nicely. this way you dry faster and smoother. as for thinner you are better off going with high grit sandpaper to take the paint off. also it will help if you rough sand your pieces with 1200 grit before painting, this helps with adherence and will make your paint smoother when finished

It is made by a Japanese company called Tamiya specifically for plastic. Now that I think about it there was a breeze today and they were drying on the deck upstairs....

As far as painting and sanding you are correct and thats what I do. About three dusted coats, and then clear. I was thinking I would have to use sandpaper, but thought I would ask about thinner in the case it would be easier and faster to take off the paint.

Paint will bubble outside if it is humid and/or too hot. You can just sand down the coats smooth and then drop another layer or two of the same color on it to even it out. Just get some 1000+ grit sandpaper to smooth it out.

It was pretty humid today, and probably got hot above the black deck... I did notice that the black paint started to seperate in small areas, and was wondering what caused it. Thanks for the tip.

i have painted 4 pvc sabers now, the very best thing is to

1. sand with 2000 grit sand paper, very lightly.

2. wipe off with damp paper towel

3. sand again with 2000 grit sand paper

4. CLEAN VERY WELL WITH ACETONE. You can buy this at Walmart near the
finger nail paint.

5. let dry for at least 10 min.

6. make sure you have a well vented area, outside and not above 70 degress or too humid.

If you have to wait till night time to paint.. do it!

7. paint with your choice of paint. (I like using Enamel Spray paint)

Hope this doesnt happen again.

Thanks Havok! The build is done and it has sound! I will go back and sand some more to give it a better aged feel but I think this one won't see more paint. I will post pics and possibly a vid of the saber later on tonight! I am glad we have this support system available it helps a lot!:D
