So I went to my local electronics store to look for some rechargeable batteries, and after not finding anything decent for a decent price, I started looking in the clearance section. I noticed a camcorder battery that looked rather odd. The price was originally $40, but was marked down to just under $3. Upon a closer look, I could tell that there must be 2 round batteries inside the plastic casing and the packaging read 7.4V 1500mAh Li-Ion.

Here is the packaging.

Here is what I got after opening it up.

The batteries side by side do not fit inside a standard MHS hilt, but they are 5/8" x 1 7/8". I figure I will wire them in series and use them as a rechargeable battery pack. I'm still trying to figure out if the attached circuitry board is a PCB or not. Does anyone have any input on that?

Yes, I know my camera sucks on my phone.

PCB = Printed Circuit Board

As for what it does? No clue... sorry man

PCB = Protection Circuit Board for the rechargeable batteries.

I've figured out that it is because it has the following, just like a PCB sold in the shop.

5 Pads on the board

1 -out
1 +out
1 -in from battery
1 +in from battery
1 common in from batter (connection bridge from both batteries)

Now I just gotta figure out how to fit it all inside. Not bad for $3.

My mistake, wondered why you had said it that way... looks like i was not so helpful after all :p

LOL Don't worry, sometimes thinking aloud helps us all figure out what we need to know.

Sounds like they are something in the 18650 diameter size range though the length for 18650's is longer. You'd have to put them end to end to fit in MHS. I would keep the PCB, as they are most likely not protected cells.

Nope, they are definetely not. I'm going to get them all ready and then heatshrink them together with the PCB attached to the outside of the shrink.

I bet those are 18500s. It should make a decent pack as long as the pcb doesn't limit the current too much. You might check it.

I don't have a multimeter nearby, but I was getting full brightness through a 5v Regulator, PNP Transistor, and 1A Buckpuck.

They seem like they take up a bit too much room in the hilt, though... I cant get those, a 2010 Hasbro Obi-Wan, Buckpuck, Switch, Speaker, Swing Sensor, PCB, and all the wiring in without something crunching.

Sure you can. If I can fit 4 AA's, a buckpuck, switch, a cheapy Hasbro board, recharge port and a speaker in a V3 mount in a MHS hilt style #2 body, there is a way. Cram-Fu:
Just need a little more Fu and a little less Cram.

4x AA's will fit side by side, 18500s will not. They sit longwise and take up a ton of room. I'm attempting to try the sound board inside the 1" polycarb tube right now, with the sensor hot glued to the inside.

True, but the board will not fit on top of the batteries in a 2x2 configuration with all the other components in there.
I'm just saying to think about your placement. That's all.
What hilt pieces do you have?

Yeah, I might be able to fit the battery with the board on top. I just worry about the board bridging off the wall of the MHS.

I'm using the guarded hilt #2 and the ribbed choke extension.

FYI: an 18500 will fit into the choke section, with room for wires.
You can get a sleeve made for protecting fluorescent bulbs.
It fits inside of Standard MHS parts perfectly. It comes in two sizes.
Get the T-8 size. Hope this helps.
