Is it possible to run the Luxeon LED (either the star 0 or the star III) off of a 9v battery rather than the 4-6 AA? Anf if you can what are the different calculations that one would need to do this?

The calculations for a 3w are here

you can figure out the ones for a star/o via the many led calculators available via the web.

One thing to look out for is the amount of current that can be drawn from a 9 V is low compared to what can be obtained from an AA. The following link compares the current sourcing capacity of various types of batteries.

I've been trying to find a holder that holds 6 AA batteries (as in the old MRFX sabers), but all the ones I have come across won't fit in a 1.5" tube. Its 3 AA battery width x2 .
Anyone know where one can buy a more cylindrical holder?
