I'm surprised that there was nary a peep about this year's San Diego Comic-Con. It was my first Comic-Con, though I was there (http://www.fantagraphics.com/index.php?option=com_myblog&show=Comic-Con-Day-1-Part-3-Moto-Hagio-with-video-.html&Itemid=113) on business (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2010/moto-hagio-focus-panel), plugging my new manga translation (http://www.amazon.com/Drunken-Dream-Other-Stories/dp/1606993771/) with the artist (http://www.comicsgirl.com/2010/07/24/spotlight-on-moto-hagio-at-comic-con/). Nonetheless, I had a blast, even though I didn't bring a single saber. (I was tempted.)
I saw a handful of really good Star Wars costumes. The two that stick out in my mind most are a mother and daughter. Mom was wearing custom-made woman's Mandolorian armor, and daughter was wearing really high-quality, child-sized Clone Trooper armor. They were just awesome.
And I guess it's an indication of how much exposure I've had to hardcore clone armor through the Costuming forum here that I was able to easily distinguish between the mass-produced Storm Trooper costumes and the Real Thing.
But I don't recall seeing any particularly stunning Jedi or Sith costumes, and I think I spotted just one custom saber among all the off-the-shelf Force FX sabers. :-?
Oh, and there were more "slave Leias (http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/index.php/2010/07/27/comic-con-adrianne-curry-the-slave-leias/)" than you could shake a stick at. I suppose they were mostly hired help. :p
