View Full Version : PolyC Tips!!

Strydur

I finally got a good working polyc tip with shoulder prototype. I glued one on and let it sit for about an hour. Then I proceeded to smack it against everything I could find including my concrete floor and the damn sucker wouldnt come off for anything. I wish I had a video camera to show you just how much abuse these can take. I will get them made up as soon as I can.

Awesome!!!

So will they replace the acrylic ones in the Complete Blades, or will we have to buy them separately?

Strydur

I try and use the best possible so yes the acrylic ones will no longer be used in the blades once I have these in stock.

Will these be the same/similar to corbin's tips?

This reminds me I need to go whack something good.[:)]

EDIT: Video... working on it. I took a baseball bat swing at my basketball hoop. Still on there.[:)]

EDIT2: Video! http://www.classmaterial.com/~_3513/incom/tipwhacking%20001.MOV

If you doubt it... watch the frame by frame.[;)] Look at that PolyC bend.

The tips corbin currently has are acrylic one with a shoulder piece glued onto it. The ones I will have are PolyC and have the tip and shoulder molded as one piece.

Well, it'll have to wait as the sun is setting here. I'll have to figure out how to get a good view of a tip hit anyway. At least it shows that they won't fly off in normal dueling (I did that before at college and that tip was GONE! Even after move out it wasn't found[?]). If they're one-piece that's even better![:)]

Sounds like more to add to my next order.[:D]

Innovative...

I wonder what the heat does to the structure of the PolyC. Like, if it gets brittle like metal and some other materials.

yeah, the shouldered tips corbin has are still acrylic ones, but we are awaitin the polyc ones. i got one of corbins to replace the tip i shattered before the con. and it works great. just got to remember no direct smacks on the tip, and itll be fine. it may be glued on real good, but i bet it will still shatter if hit right.

Hey Tim did you find out if it bonded to polycarb with acetone like ultra had talked about before. Since it isn't polycarb that these are made out of I didn't know if the trick would work or not.

dude, you beat the snitz out of that thing. that is sweet how before the tip shattered, you actually cracked the polyC. just goes to show you how strong weld on 3 is

Acetone melts polyC, so when you join two pieces together with it, it melts them together. You just take a dropper, drip put a couple drops onto the polyC tip's shoulder and snap it into the blade.

Strydur, I thought you were making tips out of PolyC, that is why I reccomended acetone. Acetone will work with polyC tips, but I doubt it will work with SAN resin.

the half ball doesn't matter much GForce, it's all in the glue [:D]. i think you mean 10 jugs of weld on 3 and or acetone

The shoulder makes a big difference..more surface area to glue and more side strength.
