What would be a good dueling saber that doesn't cost a arm and a leg to build?

haha no worries, like i said... read... A LOT. We are more than happy to lend a hand, but we don't want to take the time to disgorge years of experience when it is already at people's fingertips ;)

Good luck, and feel free to ask for more help once you have a better idea of what you want to do.

See the subforum at the top of the main forum page? What does it say? "Start Here". Do that. Start at the first section in there and read through it, then read though the rest. Work your way down through all the sections.

That's just for starters.

I just built my last saber all out of PVC for $40.00

Parts:

5' of 1.25" of SCH 40 PVC - $3.80 LOWES
5' of 1.00" of SCH 40 PVC - $2.99 LOWES

I only used about 12" of both.

10 Set screws - $ 1.20 Valu

40" Thick wall Trans White Blade - $11.00 TCSS
Shouldered Mirror Tip for Thick wall blade - $3.50 TCSS
BUTTON - $8.00

1 RED LUX 1 LED -
1 5 d Optic -
1 Optic holder - PRICES NOT SHOWN FOR RESPECT TO TCSS ( I only got from there cause they still had LUX1)

Battery HOLDER 2 AAA - Radio Shack

, only thing not accounted for was my time dremeling.

I built my sons for about the same price, and let me tell you, a 8 yr old doesnt have any restraint, so we beat the hell out of our blades, and MAN they take a beating. First couple of hits I was afraid they would break but hes cracked the ground, trees, MY HANDS.... NOTHING

Im pretty sure Your fingers will break before the blade will.

hope this info helps

You should really get a TCSS battery holder. I've tried the radioshack ones a few times and when dueling they can loose contact. Then you have to open it up to put the batteries back in all the way. Even if you use a recharge port and rechargeables and tape/glue them in if the contact isn't solid and if you're using a sound board your board will act up.

TCSS doesn't sell 2 AAA battery packs.:( Any other battery pack is to big to fit in PVC.

I just wrap a strip of electrical tape around my pack.

There are AAA holders but they hold 4. But I see your point. Tim should try and add them to the store.
