Hi all my name is Jeff and I just signed up here a few days ago. I must say I'm VERY impressed with all you guys have done making these lightsabers more and more realistic!! I myself just picked up a Darth Vader Master Replicas Lightsaber for $75.00. Saw it and I always wanted one and well now I've got it. I've been reading all I can about the Master Replicas Darth Vader Lightsaber Conversion to Luxeon. I would Very much like to do this and from what I saw of the conversion it looks pretty easy. I myself am building a replica of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. So I've had a touch here and there of electronics.....basically just know how to solder wires to switches. [:)] I saw the Darth Vader Conversion Kit for $34.95 but here is where I am confused....I looked but I couldn't find these parts that are under the kit - - "Includes pretty much everything needed except the LED,lens, and lens holder which are sold seperately." I looked but I didn't find the price nor the objects of LED, lens and the lens holder. If its up here please tell me because I must be blind lol. Also if I do this conversion, how much of a impact when dueling with the basic saber blade that comes with the lightsaber automatically can it take vs the tougher replacement blade?

ALL feedback is most welcomed and I'm glad to be a part of this board and community.
Thanks again
Jeff

The LED, lens, and lens holders can be found under - LED Products > Hilt supplies > Electronics and LEDs. As for the blade strength, I don't have a clue, because I don't own an MR, but I have heard that the replacement blade from TCSS is much more duelable.

Welcome!
You can add the LED, lens, and holder with the option section when you select the kit for your cart. And of course the way posted by JSA above.

You can still use the thin wall MR blade and it will be ok for light dualing but Tim's TCSS 1/8" blade is incredible for any dual you could want to do. My son and I have used these blades daily and I can tell you there is no comparison. A TCSS blade could break a MR blade with no problems if the dualing was aggresive enough. The added benefit is that you can have your blade longer or shorter to suit your preference.

EDIT- BTW if your big in to Knight Rider and KITT ya really need to say hi to Firebird21. He is our resident KITT expert[:)]

I agree the MR blades dont stand up well at all, when used in heated dueling Tim's blades witl put dents, bends, and creases all over the MR blades. The MR blades dont even stand up to the 1/16th blades for they are thinner walled. Like James said if you plan on doing anything other than light tapping you might want to invest the money in one of tim's blades(they are virtually indestructable). On the other hand, when shortened, for say youngling blades, they are pretty darn durable, my son has yet to crease his blade but it is only like 20-24 inches long.

Wow thanks everyone for the Welcome [:)]

Now what all do I really need to make the luxeon style vader saber? I see so many parts like the luxeon driver board, do I need to get that? I'm trying to do this as good but not go overboard on price of building this thing. I would like to know all parts I need to get to make it as good as Vader's saber. Oh and is there a way to remove sounds from the saber? Mine has a annoying double hum hum when not moving or even if I move a little bit. Not to mention I don't remember a double hum hum on any of the movies. I remember obi wan's saber on a new hope had a 4-5 hum noise just before when vader gets ready to say "your powers are weak old man."
Also anyone notice that when the clash sound activates on vader's saber that its the same one as he powers up on empire strikes back when he first fights Luke in Cloud City in the Carbon Freezing Chamber? Wouldn't call that a clash lol I'd call it Vader's saber powering up.

Oh and Hi to Firebird21 - You are into K.I.T.T.? Where ya from and are you building a conversion like mine?

Thanks all so much for your help and please keep it coming.

There is no reason for increased volume, I am scanning your interrogatives quite satisfactorily. I am the voice of Knight Industries Two Thousand's microprocessor. K.I.T.T. for easy reference - KITT if you prefer.

Whoo... how through of you.[:D] The only things need for sure are the things in the kit and listed as needing to buy seperately. Everyones covered it well... so WELCOME to the forum! Do look around and check all the neat stuff.

You can catch a lot of the electronics stuff through the thread index and FAQ. If you want to be [:0] the gallery and "saber pictures" thread in misc is a nice treat.

ha, yea, i tried that when getting the optics to seat themselves... ended up having to clip the lil plastic arms on the bottom of it... couldn't wire the LED up otherwise...but then again necessity is the mother of invention

I think I might try to convert my vader saber to the luxeon 3. One thing what is the difference between the luxeon 3 and the 5? And the parts that says optics not included.....what optics? Do they come with the saber or are those more parts I have to buy? And that Luxeon driver board....what does that do and can it go into a vader master replicas saber? Also where can I find any other sabers that's not so expensive as new? I tried ebay but everyone outbids me even on half working sabers. Some have no sound don't know if that is fixable or not but I don't try for them.

I really appreciate all the help guys
You are really making me feel at home.

I only hope I will be able to help you guys out somehow someday.
Thanks and Please keep all help coming.

Luxeon 3 vs. 5... 5 is brighter, but limited to certain colors, needs lots of voltage and heatsinking and therefore is unsuitable for MR conversions.

Optics are what focuses it up the tube. That's the columnator lens in the store. You have too pick 5 or 10 degrees which is why it's not included in the conversion kit. To head of the which is better question view the FAQ.[:)]

Luxeon driver... that offers lots of features but is difficult to put in a MR conversion. For a beginner you should not bother. There are plenty of topics that address this... between them and the description you should be able to get a picture of it.

Ebay is pretty much the place for cheaper sabers... unfortunatly it's not that much cheaper than if you can find a $75 deal. Often it's a crapshoot on the ebay sabers too. Some may just have scratches others may be so out of wack. Sound may be fixable if it's like a battery contact issue or speaker replacement... but you'd have to see.

I'm in the mood and not snipy SO... please do look around because not everyone likes to see the newbie questions again. Like maybe once a week people ask "What's this stuff not included in the kit? What is the luxeon 3W driver and do I need it?". Don't doubt the tutorials and product descriptions.[;)] We aren't trying to make this overly difficult.[:I]

if the saber works just fine, i would just go with the led swapout, and a blade. all that really matters is the sound. if the blade soesnt light up well, or has bad spots, and the sounds still works, then a led swap is still good. no real need to put the lux driver in ther unless the entire insides are not working at all. the MR guts, when wired to a lux, drive the lux itself.
