Just ordered 300 LEDs

So yeah, I just ordered 300 5mm LEDs. :D
About 100 of them will go to either a makoto style saber or a non-lightsaber LED-staff.
You will hopefully see a project log-thread in here pretty soon.

But! That gives me 200 LEDs left. What to do with them? LED-lighted frying pan?
This is were you come in.
Ideas? Stupid ideas? Anything?

If you have one of those "helping hands" (metallic clamps to hold your soldering target on place), you could make it lit from every direction with 3 LEDs. Of course, that would leave with 197 left...

Make a record: Most accent LED's on a Lightsaber. 20" long hilt, every single inch full of 5mm LEDs...

i am buying 1000 flashing RGB LEDs for my deadmau5 helmet. he is debuting his newest helmet which he has put in 250k in. its solid RGBled and LCD screen all programed by a central computer. he also cant see out of it so he has 3 screens on the inside and cameras on the outside so he can see its a cool build.
so im kinda making a cheap nock off by doing a helmet with just 1000 RGB hooked up to 14 186500s in parallel. trust me these helmets are HUGE it will fit. heres a pick

no i havent. ;) im just doing what i can with what i got. seriously though i need some serious amps. 1000 leds all in parrallel will be 30 amps. thats why i need about 14 186500s lol

I guess I just don't know what the heck a deadmau5 helmet is. I was assuming you were talking about a Mando helmet, then you put up that weird pic (not pick, it's short for picture ;)) of that huge mouse head thing, which doesn't look like it has any LEDs.

How could anyone put 250 thousand LEDs in and on a helmet?

I'm going on the assumption that deadmau5 is kiddie speak for dead mouse(not meaning to offend you DJ, I know you didn't make up the name). I'm also assuming that the LEDs go behind the eye domes.

30 amps in a big stuffed rat head? Be careful with the wiring so you don't end up wearing a burningmau5.

deadmau5s new helmtet debuts in two days and he has put 250,000 dollars into it and it has a couple million leds in it though but there the really tiny surface mount type.

the helmet above is one of his older styles. his evil helmet lights up its below.

this one me and my friend built a replica of it and so far its the best replica around :D i even made it light up inside using a 20 mako LED string.

i'm just exploring my options here this was my first possible set up. im looking into the surface mount type to ya know. trying to find something that needs WAY less current. because frankly i dont like 30 amps right by my head. plus im sure it would get friggin hot so i would need some form of insulation.

but like i said im exploring my options.

I think you're totally crazy.

And, you know what? I like it. Crazy is good! Crazy makes things evolve.
But I do recomend you to think over the 30amps 5 inches from your head some more...

And! Unless you plan on using individual resistors for every LED, don't wire them all in paralell. The single resistor you use "at the bottom of the ladder" can't handle that much effect. Instead make several paralell LED-ladders with individual resistors.

but my eyes will light up using a lux RGB that will fade between all the colors. (my friend galens dad is an electronics engineer and he said it would be easy to set that up... i frankly have no idea how hell do it but hopefully it will be cool enough and small enough i can fit it in a saber) i will also be surrounding the mouth with EL wire. :D and maybe the ears

now deadmau5 is kinda getting the idea from these guys. and he CAN see out of it. his new helmet has cameras on his neck and LCD screens inside his helmet. he CAN see. all the others are tinted.

I've seen the interactive table one before. That would be extremely difficult to do in EL, in my opinion, if you want it to have as many light up spots.

If you've never worked with EL wire before, try a small project before deciding to do something that daunting with it.

Right now I'm deep in the planning of the 100 LEDs-staff. Its going pretty well thanks to some serious elecric knowledge from on of my friends.

My idea was very simple in comparison and is just based on a plexi table top with an EL trim to illuminate the outer edge. Just a rough idea that could be applied to a variety of furniture or interior decor projects. One of those ideas I'll eventually get around to.

Oh, well then, that's easy. I thought you were talking about something more complicated.

Though working with EL wire can kind of drive you crazy the first time you work with it. It can be hard to strip sometimes.
