has anyone ever heard of a beam splitter, (im not refering to the kotor beam splitter) i found an old box of electrical and camera stuff in my grandparents basement and found a square lens labeled beam splitter, it has two different tints on opposing sides, anyone ever seen anything like that?

i have heard of them but i have no idea where i here them might of been a old photography class i took in school

Not sure how beam splitters relate to regular photography but I can tell you that beam splitters are essential in many laser applications. It lets half the light pass through and deflects the other half usually 90 degrees. beam splitters are required to make holographic pictures. explanation on making holograms and how splitters come into play would require a long boring discussion on quantum physics.
