I want to upload some pictures of my 5-watt saber with various color gels, but I'm having some trouble. The thing is so bright, what looks in person like a nice Mace Windu purple is coming out as blue in the pictures. Green, blue, red and yellow seem to do OK, but no luck with purple or orange.

Anybody have any hints as to how I can get more color-accurate pictures? So far the only luck I've had is adjusting the tint with my photo software.

Try having a fluorescent light on behind you, or some limited daylight. That helped my shots.

Turn off the flash. I usually don't have to do anything else besides that. If you know/can mess with the exposure settings. Do realize that longer exposures mean you have to have the camera really stable, and too long will make it seem brighter than it actually is.
