A friend of mine is getting a saber made and will be using corbins board, fx sound board, resonator and red orage led 3 watt. Powered by a 4aa's I think. What would you say the battery life is on a setup like this? Whats the standard battery life of a led saber?

That setup will last about 10 min

Yeah, he recommends at least 5 AA's for the 3W w/driver setup, add a soundboard and resonator and I recommend six. Tim, why are six-cell AA battery holders so damned hard to find? And I mean 2-wide by three long.
Not those three-wide guys.

It's not hard to make one.
I just finished cutting and joining 2 (2 AAA) holders into a 4 AAA holder. You just measure, cut both, and screw them to a small plank. In my case I used a peice of brass.

If you mean a 9 volt battery the battery life will be very short I would say just a few minutes at best.

Ultra's using 5W Lux with a 2X9V setup, so far I haven't worn the batteries out yet.

A single 9 volt battery would never make it[xx(]

I recommend lithium batteries. They last way longer.

If you are running the LED only, a single 9V will last quite a while, but if you add a sound module into the equation it will kill it in relatively short order i am told. I ran a 5watt lux in one hilt on a single 9V battery on and off for about a month or so usually about 20 minutes every other day and it was running fine through that. one morning i found that my son left it on all night so, obviously, i had to change batteries.

yes i am talking about running a single 9v on just one 5w green. no sound. supertrogdor, does your post really mean... 20min every other days for a month so... 20min x 15days= 300minutes? that's totally different than do-clo's opinion. sorry i don't know i am just wondering.

or i'll have to go back and stick with the good o' 3w

oh and supertrogdor were you using a lithium battery?

He could be using lithium 9V's which pack much more amperage. It would also depend on whether it's constant drive or not. Erv and Corbin's driver could run a 5W for 10 minutes then it'd lose brightness from there.

I'll do my own bench marks as I finish my sabers. Both will be rechargables.

Or run it off AA's and get a couple of those Desperado style bullet bandoleers and load'em with batteries![:D]

maybe not quite that often, but a very long time indeed. I never clocked it but my boy loved changing colors and wanted to do it for about 20 min or so before bed. I would usually let him about every other day or every 3 days. However, yes, a standard run of the mill 2 for $1 pack at the dollar store 9V battery
