OK, I think this is cool... no one else may, LOL.

It's the OSRAM SCE5780, which is an 8 character 5x7 dot matrix display that .45" x 1.7". It's serial, so you could use a microcontroller to scroll letters down the display. It uses about 5 wires to communicate.

It's not much bigger than the bargraphs (IE Battery level indicators) that some people have put in hilts before so it should be doable.

Down side... $50... ouch.

"Welcome, my master. Who would you like to slay today?"

Very cool. It would be a nice optional add-on to the future TCSS soundboard.

Another option... 2 line, 16 character LCD display that's about 1" x 2"

Its 25 Pounds, which is about $42 US with shipping.

I think the footprints are OK... the smaller (8 Character one) is like a half inch by 1.7 inches.... sideways in a hit it's about the same as a battery level indicator. (I think it's about 1/4 thick too.)

The other one... well, in some designs it could work... I'm going for a sleek look and as much as I want to use the LCD display it just won't work with the look I am after.

I absolutely will use it in some saber eventaully, LOL.
