Hey guys, didnt find this anywhere, used the search function. Does anyone know a good place to get a custom jedi belt? i'm a slightly portly jedi, and i've heard that the regular 2" belt doesnt look as good, should be 3" with a bigger waist. Anyone have any sites, or personal businesses?

I had alot of fun making my own.
I found a few on ebay, and I remember coming up with lots just by searching the net. If you want leather, expect to pay for it. It cost over $50 US just for the supplies to make mine.

MC

BTW - if anyone knows a good way to get Jedi like leather boots without paying $300 for riding boots, I'm all ears!

We found boots on ebay for not a horrible price, they were made by a costume place I believe.

I was searching ebay last night, you can find decent boots for about 38 dollars plus s/h. Belts ran about the same so they are there if you look!

As you well know I am part of the portly Jedi club. The belt in my sig pic is part of the outfit that was made for me by speedystitches on Ebay. For those who are not handy with the sewing machine I highly recommend her. It is just the fake leather and it is a wrap and tie deal. I was looking at getting the Master belt that TorLinWaDur gave a link to and I have been browsing ebay looking for options. It seems that as you go up in size your options of ready made stuff goes down.

I got a really nice belt for my sith costume on ebay from this seller: silverleaf_armory They make medieval armor but it is all made of leather and it is quality stuff. Try a search for leather armor and you should find some options also. One other source would be a law enforcement supply company you can get a three inch wide gun belt.

the jedi belt i have i made myself. i used a weightlifters belt, trimmed down each side to match the narrower part of the belt, which left me with a 2 inch wide belt. the buckle is a dbl prong type. i made a fake center front buckle, as the actual buckle goes in back. got a 100# picture hanger and popriveted it to the belt. found some old army surplus belt boxes, i had a 2 pouch one, but the strap closure broke on one, so i just took that half off. left one on. then i added a cell phone hanger on the right. so i can go with a dring hangin saber on right and the belt clip type on left, either/or both at same time. i dyed the belt with tandy leather dye a brown. wasnt real expensive to put together and easy to make.

do-clo, thats a good idea too on the police supply store. we have one in tulsa and thats where i used to get my oakley sunglasses from. i was in tight with the sherrif back then and all i had to do was go in and say they were for him, and i got the discount. a pair of oakley blades only cost me 60 bucks. where anywhere else they run 150 bucks.

I have custom made Jedi belts for friends. The size is 2 1/2 inches for the outer belt, the inner varies according to buckle size. I tried a 3 once cause I used to be a lot bigger. It didn't look right, so I made one the right size. After I lost 160 lbs due to weight loss surgery, I needed to cut about 8 inches off my belt. I did a whole lotta research on these belts and from what I've seen and heard, I came pretty close. What ever you do, don't by a pleather one. You need fairly heavy belt grade leather to do this. I can talk anyone through making one. I have a belt tutorial on the Jedi Assembly boards. If you get a belt with too thin leather, the weight of your Lightsaber will make it bend and look tacky. If anyone needs help, let me know.

<font size="3"><font color="blue">I also make my own belts. I'm on my 3rd one by now. My first 2 were 2 1/2", but for my latest one I went down to 2" because I thought it had more feminine proportions.

I like being able to choose what color dyes I use, also. I'm now into 2-toned belts, though I went a bit subtler on my last one. And I also have the movie accurate "Anakin" buckle on it.

My 3 pouches are all different colors, dyed after making each one of the 3 belts.</font id="blue"> [:p]

<font color="maroon">And I have made a Sith belt. It was pretty complicated, criss-crossing those straps over each other that way. I had to plan it out very carefully. I will never make one like it again. [:0]

Would you consider doing some custom belts for folks here at TCSS? I think it would be cool if you could bash out a price tag and then those who purchase offer something extra (10% maybe) for Tim.

Thoughts?

<font size="3"><font color="blue">Hmmm. I don't know. For me, when a hobby becomes a business, it's not fun anymore, it's a chore.

And I don't have access to those good buckles anymore.

I'm already doing a big holster project for a group Rebel Fleet Trooper project. And I'm doing belts, which are simpler, for those, too, though Zhi-don is supposed to be helping me convert the rectangular buckles to octagonal.

Very cool. I dunno if it would become a business in the sense that you would be making hundreds of them... You could announce a "limited run" and only do so many... *nudge, nudge*

Nice leather work J-Lo, you could make belts when you feel like it and list them on ebay and let the guys bid it out for them.[:p]

Loren, I've been leatherworking for 2 years and I can tell you that your work is very good. Have you tried tooling on your projects? That is the part I enjoy the most in leatherworking. I have "pictures" that are large pieces of leather that I have tooled and dyed in traditional colors. I then frame them and hang them. I have some techniques for creating highlights that give a golden underglow to the leather. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send them to you.
