Folks:

If it isn't too much trouble, please take a silent moment to reflect on our extreme fortunes and freedoms, bought and paid for by the gallant sacrifices of our Men and Women in uniform, at home and abroad.

I, for one, thank you. Be safe during this weekend!

Hmm... when would be an appropriate time to play taps? I have no problem going out to sound it for the people that serve. It's the most satisfying thing in the world... it's hard to know if you don't play, but think of hearing but x100 times more because you get the honor of rendering it.

xwing you rock dude and naashar I am glad you put this up. My wife's uncle was on call this weekend that is why we were out town last weekend so the family could get together and visit all family that has served and been put to rest.

Tim or xwing is it possible to sticky this just for the weekend so it doesn't drop down in the list?

For everyone's info....the country(US)will be playing taps and observing a moment of silence at 1500(3:00 PM for the civies) on Memorial day. Thank you everyone, being an active duty military member and a veteran in my own right, it is very much a moral booseter to have ones country stand up for its military and support us while we fight to preserve everyone's freedom. Thank you again.

I'm retired Army, my Wife is an Army Vet, and our son is serving in Afghanistan in the Army (of course). We are all proud to have done our duty to our Country. I'd go back in tomorrow if they would approve my packet to return to Active Duty.

My father served in the army during the Korean War, unfortunately he was killed in an auto accident when I was very little and I don't have any memories of him. I do have his Purple Heart and his 3 Bronze Stars and they are my most treasured possessions. I am very proud that my father served his country and fought to protect the lives of the innocent. I just want to say thank you to all the men and women that have served or are serving their country, you are the true heroes, and may God bless you and keep you safe.

Every year we have a Memorial Day cook-out. (This year we're doing a full Pig Roast http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mouthwater.gif)

Last year we gave out Thank You cards to everyone in attendance that's served in the millitary.

I invite you to do the same. None of them expected it and all nearly broke down and cryed right there. Even my Father-in-law.
It really ment alot to all of them.

Guys, I can't tell you how I'm feeling right now. I came in this morning expecting far less than this level of response. I'm actually sitting here welling up...

3PM it is for taps.[:D] Perhaps I can russle up pics of it... probably means I'll have to drag my sister out when I do it.[:D]

My biological grandfather served in WW2 in the British Air Force. He was one of the few that volunteered before the US entered. The grandfather that I have always known (real one died before I was born and grandmother remarried) is retired Navy and Coast Guard.

yes, we will all remember past and current fallen heroes in all wars, and cherish our freedom as they have fought and layed down their lives so we can keep and have our freedom. they will never be forgotten, and we all hope that our boys overseas, will come home safely. for, what is freedom, if there arent those who fight to keep it free.

Bullocks[:(!] The new manager is a moron and I have to work tomorrow. I'm so ticked because he scheduled me tuesday too. If I add the last FOUR days I've worked I'll have done 50 hours by tuesday! This is only my first week...

So it looks like no taps at 3 tomorrow. Hopefully I will get tuesday off because the assistant manager thinks he's out of the looney bin or didn't even bother to look at last week's schedule.[V]

Now that Memorial day has passed, and we've all paid our respects, I hope, to all that have served, I say we shift the focus of the thread to ”What did you do for Memorial Day?” Rather than starting another new topic.

Any objections, just tell me to shut up.[:D]

If not I will start by saying that my weekend went very well except for the broken saberhttp://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_bawl.gif, but I'll get to that later...

Sunday we hosted a Luau Pig Roast for our family and friends. We got a 70 lb. pig and rented a Spit from the local butcher (Stern’s). It was very good and surprisingly easy to do. And we hope to do it again next year.

What better way to get a party going than roasting an entire animal for 8hrs. That is unless you’re PETA*.(Thanks Shiky. I don't know what I was thinking) I must say, it was rather creepy preparing the pig for the Rotisserie, since I have little experience with that sort of food preparation. But it was well worth it.

Unfortunately, during the drunken saber fights after the sun went down, I managed to break the Heiland head piece on my MR Vader that I just converted. Luckily I found the broken piece yesterday and I should be able to repair it with moderate noticeability.

But other than that and the clean-up-hangover yesterday, it was a very good Memorial Day.

P.S. I will try and post the pics of the Roast when I get back from Bartending Class.

No big suprise we did all kinds of work around the house to get it ready for market. Saturday was the opening day for our pool so we did make it over there for a while.

Sunday was more work around the house and watching the Indy 500 and the World 600. ( That would be Indy car racing and NASCAR racing for those of you not sure or don't care[;)])

Monday was non-stop except for the alarm I had set so that at 1500/3PM we played Taps and the National Anthem followed by a moment of silence. As the sun started going down we fired up the grill and did Brats Burgers and Dawgs.

That's to keep the aliens from stealing them.

Seriously, it was to keep them from burning and falling off. You may not see it very well, but there’s also chicken wire wrapped around it too to keep it from falling off.

To put it properly, all joints tend to fall apart when they spend 8hrs over a fire. Including vertebrate. It’s generally not a good thing to have your pig fall off the spit, and into the fire, 1/2 hr before you’re supposed to serve it.
