Does anyone have close up pictures of Led Strips/Ladders such as the ones used by;
>Hyperdyne
>ParkSabers
>Makototsai
>Master Replica

I'm mainly intrested in seeing Hyperdynes Led Strip( since it holds 150 5mm LEDs), but any close up pictures of these Led Strips would help me a lot!

Thanks!

:cool:here ya go... hyperdyne blades imo arn't all that great... but thats me... and i guess i can speak for others as well.... if you want an even brighter blade go for a Makototsai style blade, you can make em' as bright as you want as long as you want, and as durable as you can/want.... i can't wait to build one myself but since you asked so very kindly here ya go... http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=13487.0 just remember to search and read ALOT!!!! Found this in 5 min. ;) trust me it pays off in the long run!

Thanks!

I know that many wouldn't recommend buying a Hyperblade,
but just to clear things out, I just wanted to see how they built their Led Strip so I could compare it to Makototsai's way of doing it and also compare it to the others...
I'm not going to buy directly from hyperdyne, because in my opinion they are well overrated ;)

I have some ideas of how to create a good mount for these Led Strips( so the Leds will be perfectly aligned and all...), but first I want to see how others did it!

I found a comparrison between Parks and MR's Led Strip: http://parksabers.com/Blade_Anatomy.html

Is ParkSabers using 3mm Leds?

Yes. Those are 3mm.

idk what size parks phase blades are using i hear that they are brighter than el and mr sabers and are more durable... but not as bright as hyperblades, luxeon, makoto sabers... http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Makototsai-LEDs-V1-P357.aspx etc... are the LED you use:D

I've seen a V1 Makototsai Blue Saber personally and I wasent really impressed :(
I've never a V3 in person but I bet their amazing!

For my project I am going to use one of these;
>.5W 5 or 8mm Strawhat Leds
> 1W 5 or 8mm Strawhat Leds

The only problem with these leds is figuring out how to power 75 or 150 leds at 7500mAh or 15000mAh

Does anybody suggest any other leds from somewhere else??( I' m looking for green leds btw :D )

Thanks for the help so far guys!

to tell you the truth the v2 or v3 5mm leds sold in the shop... to tell you the truth if you don't really care about what type of LED... go for a luxeon/p4/etc... type of LED its easy and bright. imo

A Makoto V3 blade is plenty bright - and Tim sells the V3 LED's in the store - including green ones.

Dont confuse mA, milliamps, with mAh, milliamp-hours.
If you don't get it, try to think about the difference between miles, and miles per hour.

Most batteries will give you as many mA as your setup needs. mAh measures for how long they will give that output. The higher the rating of the batteries, the longer they will last.

For example, you could suck 2000 mA from a 900 mAh battery - but you would get a very short run time.

If you're looking for something with a good run time, 18650's have lots of power - if you have room for them in your hilt.

The Mako v3 LEDs come in green. http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Makototsai-LEDs-V3-P494.aspx

Woa, that helps a lot! :D makes much more sense now too.

About the Mako V3 leds.. only one thing is left to convince me that I should buy it...
Is it brighter that 8000mcd?

This is the math i did:
8000mcd@20mA@45Degrees= 3.8 Lumens
3.8@20mA x 150(# of Leds) = 570 lumens @ 3000mA

So I came up with a little chart:

570 lm@ 3000mA http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26249
798 lm@ 4200mA http://www.all-battery.com/one43af18650size4200mahhighcapacitynimhbattery.asp x
988 lm@ 5200mA http://www.all-battery.com/li-ion1865037v5200mahstickrechargeablebatterymodulewi th20awgbareleadscustomize.aspx

Or go crazy:
1710 lm@ 9A http://www.all-battery.com/primarylithiumthionylchloridebatterycsize36v90ahsa measls26500ander26500etcwithwires.aspx but that would probably damage(or kill) the Leds

One thing with the Mako that makes them seem so bright is they have a wider angle than most 5 mm LEDs.

Don't you have that backward, Luke?

"miles per hour" should be the current or mA, and "miles" should be the run time, or mAh.

Current would be how fast you can go, and run time is how far you can go, or how long you can run.

Ok after searching a lot I am between 2 types of 5mm Led ( after deciding the type of led i'll go back to the led strip topic ;D)

Green 5mm Leds................ / 45Degrees/ 20mAh...../ 8000mcd
or
Green Makototsai V3 Leds... / 45Degrees/ 20-30mAh/ ? mcd

pietro - if you're really that stuck, order 3-5 of each kind and compare their performance. For all you know, the other LED's you're looking at might be the same as Makoto V3's - after all, he gets them direct from the manufacturer.

As to your battery solutions, if you go the lithium-ion 18650 rout, use batteryjunction, they're cheaper.
Also, try not to get too far above the forward voltage for the LED's - you can a little bit, just because you have so many, but running a string of 3v LED's on too high of a voltage could be very bad - especially since you seem to be planning ~100 LED's, at the cost of .90 each... you get the picture.
If you're in doubt, use an LED array resistor calculator to see what kind of resistor could be needed. Try to find a calculator that won't put a resistor on every LED in a parallel array.

You're right. I was thinking ma/hr=mi/hr, because they're both quantites involving time. Your way of putting it makes it very easy to understand.

Awesome thanks for the help Luke!

I hope i will be posting soon a really good saber if I pull off what I have planned!
I'm designing my own Led Ladder, mixing some different techniques that I have seen here and testing some of my own.

Thanks again everyone! :D
