What are you going to use to power the LED? Will it be Corbins driver or something similar? I know his driver ramps up the LED power slowly so it kinda looks like a grow/retract look.

Thanks

For basic setups I will just use a resistor. I will eventually stock some of corbins drivers though, they make for a nice professional install and add some nice options like the ramp up and the clash.

Is there a link for Corbin's driver? Why not use a driver like this - http://www.leddynamics.com/LuxDrive/datasheets/2009A-MicroPuck.pdf - instead of a resistor?

well a resistor is under a buck and those are usually around $11 and they wont power a 3w luxeon.

That link leads to the 1 watt driver the correct part number for the 700mA driver is 02008-S700. It will drive 1-3 3watt Luxeons and 1 5W luxeon. i have one hooked up right now to a 5 watt luxeon. they are a little pricey compared to a resistor at $20.00+ ship but do work better as stated by Strydur

Can you wire up one of Corbin's drivers and the sound board from a Hasbro saber?

Not needed the Hasbro board will power one luxeon 3w and atleast one 10mm led or two 5 mm led. just wire them up w/o resistor and you will have plenty of light. the saber below uses a hasbro board

But doesn't Corbin's have the effect where the blade goes up?

It does. It goes pretty fast though. I will be stocking some of corbins drivers soon.

So will I be able to wire a Corbin's Driver and a Hasbro sound board together in order to have a lightsaber that has the power up and down blade effects AND the basic sound?

Yes u can install a driver. depending on the type of hasbro u have some have the switch mounted on the board and some have the switch separate. i'm not sure if the switch sends power directly or cycles the power on and off to "fake" the power up with the flashlight bulb. the ones i have done were for my two 5 year old boys so they think its cool as is. i would have to experiment with one.

i agree, it would be easier to use a hasbro like the anakin color change. i have gutted one of those and it has a switch wired to board. easy to jut take wires and hook up to corbins board connection/secondary momentary switch.

instead of a corbins driver theledlight.com sells a driver that does great for up to to 2 3w luxeons and should be able to wired outside of the flash effect. It seemsd like corbins driver would be overkill for this application and the luxdrive is only $20 and the clash sensor will not cause the flash effect but will produce the sound. here is a link to them

but which one? the ones i see there only say they run a 1 watt luxeon. im getting a 3 watt red/orange from tim.

Look at the 700ma power puck

Hey, I found this for the Luxeon:

"Hyper Circuit" found here
http://www.king-cart.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi?store=elektrolumens&product=Flashlight+Hobbyist+Parts

Only 3/4 inch dia. Would that be an alternative to the Puck thing? Anyone have any experience with them?

That driver only generates 500ma, that's less than the MR board. Corbin's driver runs 1000ma to a Lux III.

The only thing readily available that can power a Lux III and retain a small form factor is the LuxDrive BuckPuck 700mA DC LED Driver. But at 33 bucks, you may as well get Corbin's driver.

But really, if all you want is the instant-on and off, then just use a resistor.

If you look hard enough the 700mA Luxdrive can be bought for $22 and is small. I have contacted a company to manufacture sound (yes that 's right SOUND) modules that should be affordable. There are alot of things to work out but should be atleast as good as the MR models. hope to have more info soon. Here's a photo of the 700mA luxdrive to give a size reference. but with no sound a ber could be made the length of the blade holder and battery pack. driver will attach to pack or in between. it's dimensions are 3/4" x 1/2".

That driver still only produces 700ma.

Hi all.
My driver will work with the Hasbro sound modules just fine. I've got 10 of them currently that I'm going to start selling with my drivers soon. The thing is, not all Hasbro modules are created equal. Some are pretty bad, others are fair, and some have good sound, power up, clash, movement and power down. Those are the ones you want (and the ones I have).
My driver will work with the FX sound module too, it just requires an additional component to interface the module to my driver, which I'm currently trying to stock up on. Either sound module will come on and go off in sync with the blade with a single switch.
The Buck Puck and a few other Luxeon drivers work well. They don't have the bells and whistles that my driver does, but not everyone needs extension/retraction, clash, lockup or shimmer. For a simple on/off, a standard current regulator might be the way for you to go. It all depends on what you want.
